Our Climate Catastrophe

My generation has been normalized to news stories of storms and hurricanes around the world flooding towns and decimating people’s homes. Over the course of my life, I have witnessed hurricanes becoming more frequent and more deadly as climate change continues to plague our earth. Growing up, I aspired to be a force of change in the future, but that cannot happen if I do not have a future to live in. People are losing their homes, their loved ones, and their lives because of climate change, and soon, our earth will be uninhabitable due to this climate disaster.
Many people deny the existence of climate change, but over 97% of climate scientists agree that climate change is an issue that does indeed exist. Plenty of oil companies and big corporations continue to deny the existence of climate change, and continue to pollute the earth by emitting toxins which destroy the Ozone Layer, making earth less and less inhabitable. Our forests are turning to ash in California while politicians turn a blind eye and say climate change is a hoax. Whenever activists try to protest against them, they treat us and our demands as a joke. Sea levels are rising, the oceans are warming, and icebergs are melting. Our oceans are in chaos with coral reefs dying and storms brewing stronger and stronger each year. So what can we do, when the government denies the problem affecting our very future?
Joe Biden has a plan to build a modern, sustainable infrastructure and an equitable clean energy future. While Donald Trump has denied science, calling climate change a hoax, Biden acknowledges the climate crisis we have at hand. Biden has a plan.
In terms of improving the climate, Biden aims to provide every American city with high-quality, zero-emissions public transportation options to limit carbon emissions, and he also aims to achieve a carbon pollution-free power sector by 2035. Most importantly, he prioritizes environmental justice, ensuring that it is key in consideration in improving America. All of this is found on Biden’s website, and he outlines how he will go about these plans.
We need to take back our future, to make sure we have one to live in. Having a president that acknowledges the climate change situation is definitely the first step in the right direction. Joe Biden has a plan. He is the first step in ensuring that the children of today will live in a habitable earth tomorrow. If you believe in climate change, then Biden is the candidate for you.
